JK Gray Antiques exhibits unusual period antiques from the 17th century to the 19th century with the main qualifiers being that an item be beautiful, unusual, and rare. JK Gray Antiques is participating in the nationally regarded Antiques + Modernism Winnetka Show that is open to the public for shopping from November 8 through 10. The show is a major fundraiser for the Community House of Winnetka and has a preview party on Thursday, November 7. Here is how JK Gray’s Judy Gray stays current when taking a break from antiquing.
ON HER NIGHTSTAND
“With more than 50,000 books at home and in business locations, I am an incessant reader. Early on, I was driven to read books from cover to cover. Now with such a volume of nonfiction material, it’s more productive to enjoy the pearls within the pages. The oldest book in my collection is Nicholas Culpeper’s The Complete Herbal handprinted in 1653. This book satisfies two of my cravings … my love of antiques and passion for nutritional medicine. With reading comes writing. I’m working on my third book, which is a creation of meaningful sayings. Kids Need Care and The Greatest Treasure of All are my previous publications.”
ON HER MOBILE
“Recently returning from London, there are so many opportunities to enjoy new, exciting design trends combined with fabulous ancient pieces. My mobile got a workout photographing nonstop while attending gallery exhibitions. Carlton Hobbs, a Pimlico Road gallery featured an amazing ancient Chinese table with hand-cut figures from broken, precious porcelain set into the ancient elm top. This is one of the earliest examples of recycling beautiful broken art in a wonderful way. I returned with loads of pictures and incredible inspirations to use antiques in new and novel ways in today’s world. These fabulous photos were texted around the world.”
IN HER EARBUDS
“A busy life brought a 4-minute ROM exercise machine into my life each morning, plus an inversion table for 10 minutes as well. That’s enough time for me to energize both mind and body. The mind gets assorted TED talks. I’m open to learning, and there are brilliant ideas to be shared in this arena. My musical choices are normally classical, but the Eagles just rejoined, and an excellent performance was provided. This brought back some great old memories of a different time.”
