As days filled with sunshine and warmer temperatures await many of us during our much-awaited spring break excursions, there are a few things that should be on all of our checklists. It’s time for someone other than you to take a good look at your skin.
“We all want to look beautiful and want to love our body when we step out on that beach for the first time, but first things first,” explains Dr. Tina Venetos, founder of Northshore Dermatology Center and in private practice since 1996. “You must have that yearly skin check. Early detection is key.”
But once that yearly check is crossed off your list, there are a multitude of new treatments now being offered at Northshore Dermatology, which has locations in Lake Bluff, Wilmette, and Libertyville.
One of those new treatments is EmSculpt, which uses electromagnetic radiation.
“It is essentially the only procedure out there designed to help men and women build muscle and sculpt their body,” explains Dr. Venetos, who has called the North Shore home for the past 23 years. “It also provides the world’s first non-invasive buttock toning procedure.”
The Emsculpt process is completed within a series of four, 30-minute procedures, and within days, the results are undeniable. Better yet, there is no down time for the patient.
“When you are contracting the muscles with the EmSculpt procedure, the body responds with deep remodeling. It’s comparable to doing 20,000 crunches in 30 minutes,” she says. “It’s really perfect for that person that goes to the health club and still just can’t seem to get that six pack.”
Another treatment now being offered by Northshore Dermatology is the Y-Lift, a non-surgical procedure using filler. “There are no incisions and no down time and instant results,” says Dr. Venetos. “However, this isn’t for someone who needs a total facelift. Rather, its for that person that really just wants to look youthful again.”
Often, feeling youthful doesn’t only involve your skin. It can also mean how we feel about something like our hair. To address this, Northshore Dermatology offers NeoGraft, which is an automated hair transplant system that essentially facilitates the harvesting of follicles. Another option for hair restoration is called Eclipse PRP. “For thinning hair, this can be a wonderful option,” she explains. When PRP is injected into the scalp, it stimulates hair growth. Eclipse PRP is more affordable than NeoGraft and is appropriate for a wider range of patients.
Dr. Venetos says that her patients have seen much success with the use of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) in various treatments. PRP is the process of taking ones own blood and spinning it down to produce factors that stimulate growth when injected back in the skin.
PRP is also used in combination with SkinPen facial microneedling.“It’s a very easy way to help with one’s fine lines,” she adds. “It gives one a youthful and refreshed look.”
Northshore Dermatology still offers patients some favorite treatments, including the always-popular HydraFacial MD, Allumera/IPL Photofacial, and CoolSculpting.
“I will always suggest that both men and women get their monthly HydraFacial treatments,” explains Dr. Venetos. “There is just nothing better when it comes to erasing past sun damage and hydrating your skin by opening its pores.”
No matter what treatments you decide to partake in before the summer months are here, one thing is for sure.
“You must work with board certified dermatologists,” says Dr. Venetos. “These treatments require special training and you just can’t get that anywhere.” Northshore Dermatology’s Lake Bluff location now offers Saturday hours due to increased client demand for all of its treatments and services.
And as Dr. Venetos herself looks forward to a bit of a spring break just around the corner, she too loves to enjoy the warm beams of the sunshine in some far away locale. But remember, protection with sunscreen is essential.
“We are carrying a new powder sunscreen from ColoreScience called Sunforgettable that is great for people who are active outside,” explains Dr. Venetos, an avid golfer. “It comes in a multitude of shades and is really easy to brush on and use while you are enjoying the great outdoors.”
Spring can’t get here fast enough.
