Michelle Nelson, a regular volunteer with Misericordia, is excited to help plan the 2017 event with her fellow co-chairs. Nelson revealed that in addition to the champagne reception, luncheon, and fashion show, this year’s event will feature an even larger pop-up shop sponsored by Bloomingdale’s Old Orchard.
“The pop-up shop will be in a huge space this year with more sizes and styles available from noted designers, including Tory Burch, Sperry, Ted Baker, and more,” explains Nelson.
The fundraiser and nonprofit organization hold a special place in Nelson’s heart, as she first became involved after moving to the North Shore from Boston and learning about Misericordia from community members.
“My son, Ryan, was born with Angelman Syndrome and aged out of the public-school programs at 22 years old. After age 22, it is up the family to find a new program for those with disabilities.”
Nelson’s first experience visiting Misericordia was nothing short of amazing.
“I couldn’t believe it. It was the most amazing environment. It was an environment that would adapt to my son, versus him having to adapt to a program. The campus was free and flowing and geared to help make each individual the best person they can be.” Nelson continues to volunteer with Misericordia and its many programs, saying, “Every time I volunteer I leave feeling good and life just seems so much better.”
As one of the largest fundraisers of the year for Misericordia, Nelson and her fellow women’s auxiliary members encourage supporters to attend the Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show, as proceeds will be used to help to support children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Misericordia community.
“If you are unable to attend the event, please consider making a donation by purchasing raffle tickets for some of the fabulous prizes donated by Bloomingdale’s Old Orchard, including multiple shopping sprees,” says Nelson.
Tickets for the 33rd Annual Spring Luncheon & Fashion Show sponsored by Misericordia Women’s Auxiliary on May 3 are available at events.org/mwafashion.
