When three fashionistas put their heads together to dream up an elegant evening gathering, invited guests will undoubtedly be in for a treat. Such was the case when interior designer Shelley Johnstone Paschke co-hosted a refined dinner for 12 at her Lake Forest home with neapolitan collection’s owner Kelly Golden to celebrate one of fashion’s greatest stories—Wes Gordon.
“Wes is the ultimate dinner party guest,” raves Winnetka’s Golden. “He’s always up for a good time and can get the crowd going. He is so passionate about what he does and I love seeing him tell the stories behind what has inspired the pieces in his collection. His excitement is infectious.”
One guest who was lucky enough to receive a coveted invitation was Lake Forest’s Katie Donovan who echoed Golden’s sentiments. “The main word that comes to mind when I think of Wes is ‘gracious.’ He was gracious with his time, in his conversation, and in his sharing his collection with us,” she says.
Channeling a ’90s vibe, Gordon’s collection is one that Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy would have been proud to have hanging in her closet.
“He took a lot of time going through each piece of his collection and explaining where the material came from and what he had in mind when he designed it,” Donovan adds. “In addition, he was a lot of fun to be with. Pair that with the beautiful setting and meal that Shelley provided and I can’t think of a better way to spend an evening.”
Gordon makes no secret of having a fondness for the North
Shore. “Neapolitan was actually one of the first stores to carry my collection, and it’s always a favorite trunk show stop,” Gordon says. “Kelly Golden is one of the chicest retailers in the world and she and her clients have become close friends of mine.”
Paschke’s lovely home was the backdrop for the fashionable fare. Her dining room table was set using her family’s heirloom china and crystal, while her orange monogram added just the perfect pop of color to the divine affair. “I love having people to my home,” Paschke says. “It’s one of my greatest joys—that and setting a beautiful table.”
“Shelley’s home is gorgeous,” adds Gordon. “She had the house absolutely filled with big vases of cut white orchids. It was a dark rainy night and there was literally nowhere I would have rather been than in her candlelit dining room, eating delicious food, spending time with her fun friends with her adorable dog underfoot.”
