Equestrian Connection
Where: 600 N. Bradley Road in Lake
Forest
When: Tuesdays through Fridays,
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What: You can walk alongside horses or ponies to ensure the safety and balance of riders with special needs; learn to groom or lead horses. No horse experience necessary. Minimum age to volunteer is 13.

Chicago Botanic Garden
Where: 1000 Lake Cook Road in Glencoe
When: 365 days a year. Shifts are typically 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 12:30 to 4 p.m.
What: Weekend volunteer opportunities include working with visitor services team as a Garden Greeter, assisting with family activities and at special events scheduled throughout the year. Gardening opportunities are varied depending on the time of year. Outdoor volunteer projects are completed weekday mornings primarily March through November. Camp CBG program volunteers assist weekdays during the summer and select school breaks. Plant conservation science opportunities include assisting weekdays during the summer months and school breaks at Dixon National Tallgrass Prairie Seed Bank. All prospective volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation session and complete a volunteer application. Background screenings are required. Minimum age to volunteer is 15.

Bernie’s Book Bank
Where: 28101 Ballard Drive, Unit A in Lake Forest
When: Drop In Volunteer Hours—Mondays: 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesdays: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesdays: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., 4 to 6:00 p.m., Fridays: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and Saturdays: 9 to 11 a.m.
What: Volunteers of all ages and abilities welcome to help sort, sticker, and bag books at the processing center in Lake Forest.
How: Just drop in.
Feed My Starving Children
Where: 742 E. Park Avenue in Libertyville
When: Shift times available on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
What: Hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children.
How: Visit fmsc.org and sign up at any one of the Chicago area packing sites.
