Scores of North Shore supporters of Northwestern Settlement will happily head to the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago on November 1 for the organization’s annual Glitter Ball. But it’s important to the event’s co-chairs—Alyson Aron, Kate Huff, and Theresa Malin—that their guests know exactly why they are dressing in their gala finest and heading to the city.
House In the Wood Camp is a special place that offers at-risk Chicago children a place where they can just be kids. The camp offers respite from their day-to-day lives and the challenges they face. “Our North Shore Board of Northwestern Settlement raises enough funds to cover 80 percent of all House In The Wood Camp expenses which makes us the primary supporter of this summer camp,” explains Aron. House In The Wood Camp is a co-ed summer residence camp situated on Lake Delavan in Wisconsin. The goal of the Glitter Ball is to raise enough money to send 400 children from the inner city of Chicago to experience summer camp in a remarkable, peaceful setting.
“The impact is powerful when these children can be inspired and trust that others care about them,” Board President Ginny Burnstine says. “The House in the Wood experience changes lives.”
The Glitter Ball promises to be a spectacular evening of cocktails, silent and live auctions, as well as dinner and dancing. The event is unique in that it is hosted by the North Shore Board of the Northwestern Settlement, an all-working board that plans all of the elegant details of the black tie fundraiser.
