In every home, there should be at least one room that provides a sense of serenity. And when creating such a space, it’s reassuring to work with people who have made it their careers transforming everyday rooms into luxury retreats. These are exactly the types of experts one encounters at Scandia Home, formerly Scandia Down, with locations in Northbrook Court and Downtown Chicago.
“I love being surrounded by beautiful things,” says Linda Reuss, a Scandia Home employee for 21 years. “And that’s what I feel when I work here. The beautiful bedding, accessories, and furniture—I never get tired of it.”
Linda is not alone. All of the employees in the Northbrook Court store have more than 10 years of experience. “We’ve kept track of all of our client work and customer purchases since we opened in Northbrook in 1988,” says Chicago store manager Andrea Baldi. “Our clients can count on us to know what they have purchased in the past, so at any time, we can easily help them update their look.
When customers visit Scandia Home for the first time, they’re often surprised to see that Scandia is much more than down pillows and comforters. “People tend to know us for our luxury down products. But they’re pleasantly surprised to see that we can help them with everything from the highest thread-count sheets to the perfect furniture piece,’” says manager Jenae Strumberger, recalling how she once had silk wallpaper made for a client that was inspired from a comforter fabric.
But there’s a reason down and feather built the reputation of Scandia Home. “All the down we sell is hypoallergenic,” explains Andrea. “And our comforters and pillows carry a lifetime workmanship warranty. We try to take the worry out of owning a down comforter,” she adds, noting that Scandia Home offers down products at all price points, ranging from $300 to $3,000.
Scandia Home also offers a number of restoration services for down. “We’ve had clients come in with a sentimental piece—a pillow or a comforter—and we’re able to clean it, refill it, or repurpose it to extend its life,” says Chris Chicoine, regional manager. “Because we offer custom services, we can always provide the perfect-sized comforter for oversized mattresses and other needs.”
Scandia Home appreciates the investment many make when purchasing bedding. “If we can, we love to bring the fabrics into a client’s home so they can see how they work in the room with their furniture and natural light,” says Ivonne Georgas, manager at the Northbrook Court store. “We love when we can see a project to completion so we can help our client see how all of the pieces work together.” Ivonne says that she likes to give customers tips on how to care for their bedding so they can appreciate it for many years to come.
Scandia Home designers study the trends and offer products from Nancy Koltes, Dea, Cottimaryanne, Sferra, Yves Delorme, Matouk, Ann Gish, Bella Notte, SDH, Schlossberg Switzerland, and many more.
