The Occasion: The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation Auxiliary Board (UCCRFAB) celebrated the season’s catapult into spring with an evening at Michigan Shores Club, recognizing the culmination of a year's worth of fund-raising efforts.
The Background: The North Shore Board has been funding unrestricted grants to three leading research doctors at the University of Chicago for more than 60 years.
VIPs: The event’s co-chairs were Peggy Tieman and Midge Wegener, both of Wilmette, and the evening paid homage to the doctors in focus: Dr. Tara Henderson, Dr. Ernst Lengyel, and Dr. Samuel Volchenboum.
The End Result: More than $120,000 was raised for the continued research of the three physicians, who are trying to find answers to prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer.
