Celebrate the Roaring Twenties with dueling pianos, vintage cars, and a sampling of signature dishes from prominent Chicago area chefs. The North Suburban Medical Research Junior Board (NSMRJB) will host its 15th annual Summer Soiree to raise funds to support vital pediatric research at Children’s Memorial Hospital. The event will be held on Thursday, July 22, at Ron Durchin’s Autowerks in Northbrook.
The NSMRJB is an affiliated organization of Children’s Memorial Hospital dedicated to raising funds for pediatric research to help ensure a healthy and productive future for the next generation. Since its inception 15 years ago, the board has devoted more than $1.5 million to research aimed at treating, curing, and preventing childhood diseases.
Its support has led to advanced investigation in cancer, genetics, and developmental biology at Children’s Memorial Research Center, one of a handful of facilities in the nation devoted exclusively to pediatric research. NSMRJB research areas were chosen based on the wide-reaching possibilities of stem cell therapy, and the rising number of children being diagnosed with autism.
Sunjay Kaushal, M.D., Ph.D., focuses his research on preventing cardiomyopathy, which causes the heart muscle to weaken, resulting in decreased function. Laura Herzing, Ph.D., is working on the role that the gene UBE3A plays in autism, specifically in autistic regression.
Among the chefs and restaurants donating their time will be Michael Paulson from Abigail’s Bistro in Highland Park; David Burke’s Primehouse of The James Hotel Chicago with Chef Rick Gresh; Francesca’s North with Ruben Dominguez; and Café Des Architectes at the Sofitel Hotel with Marciel Noguier. The event will include fabulous raffle prizes such as a $1,000 Neiman Marcus jewelry gift certificate, two trips to The Ritz Carlton in both Laguna Niguel and Half Moon Bay, and photo opportunities for guests. The exciting live auction will feature one-of-a-kind packages, and a backstage tour with Jimmy Fallon on his show in New York.
