Jill Card, owner of the popular Jeans and a Cute Top Shop in Wheaton and St. Charles, is thrilled about the addition of a new store in Hinsdale. The story about how it got started never gets old. “Thankfully, on our first date, my husband told me to wear “jeans and a cute top,” which 15 years later became the name and inspiration for my stores. I have spent my life in search of cute tops and jeans that actually fit and make me feel good,” says Card. “As women, we know that is not an easy hunt, but our mission is to end that search.” With the new Hinsdale store now officially open, she is thrilled with the warm welcome the shop is receiving in town and invites you to stop by and say hello. Here are a few of these busy entrepreneur’s favorite lasts.
Last delicious meal that you’re still talking about?
My last dinner out was my first time trying the new burger obsession. I had an “impossible” burger at Emmett’s in Wheaton. I haven’t had a real hamburger in years, but I have been intrigued by this concept. I now get the hype! It was fantastic and I can’t wait to go back and have another!
Last piece of feedback from a customer that made you proud?
Just yesterday, a longtime customer told me that she and her husband would be moving to Denver in December. Even though she is excited about the move, she said she wasn’t sure what she was going to do without a Jeans and a Cute Top Shop because she hates to shop for clothes and we are the only place she has ever found it to be a fun and easy experience.
Last fantastic road trip you took?
My sister and I took our youngest sons on our kind of old fashioned road trip to Florida last March. My son was a senior and hers was a junior in high school. We showed our boys the way we used to pack it up at the last minute, hop in the car, and drive through the night like road warriors. Mission accomplished after our great week in Boca when we were driving home and the boys agreed that their moms are pretty darn fun.
Last movie you saw that you recommend to others?
Bohemian Rhapsody left a huge impression on me. I was in college at the height of their popularity, but didn’t pay much attention to Queen. I now regret that I didn’t appreciate their music and especially regret that I passed on an opportunity to see them perform live in concert.
Last fabulous fashion find?
Oh, so hard to just pick one … I go to market several times per year and it is one fabulous fashion find after another. However, I suppose of all my fabulous fall buys for Jeans and a Cute Top Shop, my favorite is the short burgundy faux fur jacket from Joseph Ribkoff. I actually placed a personal order for myself, as well as ordered them for the stores. I am anxiously waiting for the temperature to drop so I can wear it!
