If you don’t already have a ticket to the Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club’s (HJWC) “Sunset on South Beach” soiree on July 13, we are sorry to say that you are likely to miss what appears to be one of the most glam events of the summer. At $125 each, the first 150 tickets sold out within days. And even though organizers might add room for an additional 20 guests, chances are those will go quickly too. Rest assured though that this is the only bad news to this story.
The good news is that if you’re not already a part of this philanthropic group of powerhouse women—ladies who clearly know how to put the “fun” in fundraising—this summer might be a great time to join.
“Hinsdale Juniors is always taking new members that are interested in service and volunteering. We have a fun time socializing and meeting others while making a difference to local Chicago charities,” explains Tina Weller, who will be hosting the South Beach style “white party” at her dazzling (and newly renovated) 1927 Spanish California-inspired manor in Hinsdale. “We typically have about 25 to 75 new members per year and it is a wonderful way to meet like-minded women in your community. Giving back while having fun is always what we are about.”
Courtney Casey says when she and husband Dr. Kevin Casey moved to Hinsdale last year, she never imagined how cosmopolitan life in the suburbs could be.
“It seems like there is always a party to attend,” says Casey, a new member who works as Midwest Director of ELLE and Marie Claire in downtown Chicago. “But what is truly amazing about Hinsdale Juniors is, while we certainly are having a good time, we are also very committed to doing good and serving the community in the process.”
For 70 years, HJWC has continued its founding mission to bring together women in the spirit of volunteerism and service. It has been recognized locally and nationally for outstanding children’s programs, leadership, membership, and fundraising.
In addition to co-chairing the Social Committee for the year ahead, Casey is on the host committee for this month’s “white party,” a fundraising event that was started about five years ago to raise additional funds to make HJWC’s grants and other philanthropic goals a reality.
She and her husband are joined by Weller and husband Dr. Jeff, Jill and Dr. Nick Angelopoulos, Kirsten and Paul Douglass, Eva and David Andalcio, January and Dr. John Pawluk. Julie and Justin Bouchard, Julie Langdon Dudek and Mike Dudek, Ruta and Charlie Brigden, Michelle and Jim Riley, Liz and Mark Oliviero, as well as Christy and Mitch Hernandez.
The “Sunset at South Beach” soirée will be infused with Miami-style chic (including Miami-style luxury sports cars). The appetizers will be Cuban-inspired with sushi provided by Roka Akor. A DJ will spin the latest hits while Codigo tequila is served at the bar (along with other drinks and cocktails) and Buzz pops are passed around as a “cool down treat.” Desserts are by Molly Pops and Ferrara bakeries with a chef-prepared tres leches and guava pastry.
Raffle prizes include a four-night stay at Mondarin donated by Dr. Nick and Jill Angelopoulos and a Southwest Airlines gift card.
And did we mention that all of this takes place around a sumptuous estate-style pool and backyard setting? (There’s even a lawn bocce court!)
“It will be an incredible crowd. Proceeds will be added to the 2019 benefit revenue we raised to use in awarding grants for the coming year,” explains Casey, adding: “I would say to any women that are new to the area, don’t hesitate to join. I joke that HJWC is my adult sorority but I say that in the most positive, heartfelt way. HJWC brings together like-minded, philanthropic, social women and having that camaraderie is just priceless. I’ve been fortunate to form very strong, authentic bonds in such a short time that I otherwise might have missed out on had I not joined.”
