Since 1959, King’s Landscape Design has been helping homeowners make their dreams come true.
Landscape projects comes in all sizes, both large and small. For large-scale projects, it’s common to hire a landscape design partner, and they work with outside contractors to complete the work. But that’s not the case with King’s Landscape Design, which has been helping homeowners in Hinsdale and the Chicago area with their landscape dreams since 1959. “Everything is in-house,” says landscape architect Mark Speers, who has been a member of the King’s team since he graduated college. “Even our masons are in-house, which is very uncommon in the landscape design industry,” he adds. Four crews are available for masonry work at King’s—a definite differentiator. Overall, the talent and staff at King’s Landscape Design does everything from design to installation to maintenance for everything from landscape gardens to outdoor living rooms. And while high-end projects are common for the team at King’s, there’s no rule on the types of projects—or budget—they will work within. “Our range is very broad,” Speers says. Today, the company is run by husband and wife team Mark and Noel King. Mark serves as president, and he learned most of what he knows from his father, Elbert, who ran a landscape company for 30 years before King’s Landscape Design was incorporated and taken over by Mark in 1988. Landscaping is a fast-paced industry, with lots of pressure to keep up with the rollercoaster of the season. But King’s has built a reputation for being consistent, available, and reliable for its customers—even during busy seasons. The office is friendly and laidback. You can even meet the office dogs if you visit. But the work the company does is impeccable and ex- act, so clients get the best of both worlds. Speers says the aesthetic of the company’s work varies, mostly to meet the wants of the homeowner and to respect and reflect the architecture of that house. “We want each design to be customized to the homeowner’s style,” he says.
