Marcus Lemonis’ much-anticipated eponymous atelier—MARCUS—opened Thanksgiving weekend and was the talk of the village throughout the recent holiday season. Located in the heart of downtown Hinsdale in a thoughtfully restored historical landmark, MARCUS Hinsdale features multiple unique departments including women’s contemporary, children’s clothing and toys, athleisure, lifestyle, and home. Located at the corner of First and Washington Streets, this is the 16th location for the brand since the initial grand opening in Chicago’s Gold Coast in 2017. Since then, new stores have emerged in Aspen, the Boston area, Dallas, Palm Beach, and New York City—not to mention Chicago, Glencoe, Lake Forest, Naperville, and Winnetka. Power of One
Get ready to dress up and step out for an amazing cause. The Ball, presented by Pillars Community Health, will highlight this year’s theme, The Power of One to Change Community, at its annual gala on January 19 to be held at Oak Brook Hills Hilton Resort in Oak Brook. Judy Hsu, Emmy Award-winning anchor of ABC 7, will emcee the evening, which offers a way for community members to support and learn more about the organization’s services, while also enjoying an unforgettable evening of live music, dancing, raffles, and casino gaming. Pillars Community Health, a nonprofit provider of health, educational, and social services, is the result of the recent merger between Pillars and Community Nurse Health Center, two longstanding nonprofits that can trace their combined history back to 1921 in the Chicago suburbs. Pillars serves more than 10,000 people each year in the western and southwestern suburbs by providing primary medical and dental care, mental health and addictions services, domestic and sexual violence services, and early childhood education. Our favorite way to get through winter is to begin dreaming about spring flowers. And what better inspiration than a gorgeous coffee table book about the grand dame of garden design herself, Rachel “Bunny” Mellon. She and her husband, Paul Mellon, one of the wealthiest men in America, maintained homes in New York, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Antigua, and Upperville, Virginia, and she designed the gardens at all of them. She also designed gardens for some of her dearest friends—including the Rose Garden and the East Garden at the White House (at the request of President Kennedy) and the gardens at both the Paris home and the château of couturier Hubert de Givenchy. You can find stunning photographs of all these creations in The Gardens of Bunny Mellon, illustrated with Mellon’s own garden plans, sketches, and watercolors. The book also includes archival photographs and specially commissioned photographs of Oak Spring, the Mellon estate in Upperville. Author Linda Holden’s text is based on extensive interviews with Mellon before her death in 2014. Available at your local bookstore or vendomepress.com.
