Diana Mucci-Rahman of Burr Ridge and her husband recently brought a taste of Florence to Hinsdale, opening the upscale Mucci Di Firenze Italian leather boutique late last year. “Mucci di Firenze comes from a family of brothers who opened their first leather shop in Florence, Italy 25 years ago,” she says. “My husband is one of the brothers.” It’s been a dream of theirs to bring the first U.S. boutique and after researching several options, decided there was no better place than Hinsdale. Together, they are dedicated to sharing the beauty, quality, and craftsmanship of Italy in their new collection of custom leather jackets, shearling coats, and handbags. The couple has six grown children and a little one in middle school. Here are a few of her lasts:
Last fabulous design find that you will not soon forget? On our most recent trip to Florence, I fell in love with the luxuriously soft and supple look and feel of snakeskin. It’s sophisticated and timeless.
Last trip to Italy that inspired you? My husband and I went to Italy a couple of months ago and I was inspired by the vibrant colors everywhere. The homes, churches, museums, and the breathtaking countryside—it’s like taking a stroll inside a painting. I wanted to be immersed in it, so we brought it all back with us.
Last piece of advice you received that you’ve shared with others? Life is what you make it. You can complain and moan about the cards you were dealt or you can bluff your way to a win. Daneal, my 25-year-old Uber driver told me that after he lost his entire family.
Last feedback from a customer that made you realize why you started your business? The first week we opened, one of our customers very passionately said, “Everything in here is like a work of art.” I looked around and realized she was right. We work with brilliant artists who from their own hands and imaginations craft a beautiful piece of art that our customers can wear proudly. It continues to inspire me.
Last New Year’s resolution that you actually kept? Follow my heart.
