After a long winter’s sleep, the Hinsdale Farmers Market kicked off the 2018 season on June 4 with exciting new vendors of consumable and handcrafted products to join longtime and returning favorites. Now in its 42nd year, our local market attracts more than 25 Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin farmers and small food vendors. Every Monday through October 8, Burlington Park is transformed into a visual and aromatic feast with farm tables loaded with the region’s freshest, in-season fruits and vegetables, eggs, honey, ciders, cheeses, meats and poultry, jams, preserves, cut flowers, and nursery stock. New vendors joining this season include The Soft Wave Fish Company, offering fresh fish and spreads; Degusto bringing artisan pasta, olives, and balsamic vinegar; and The Good Earth Green House, bursting with fresh cut flowers and baskets. Returning vendors include various local farms, The Cheese People, John’s Sharpening Service, Olivaceto olive oil products, and Great Harvest Bread Company. Enjoy breakfast or lunch from Azteca Catering; Gandi the Juice Guru; The Eating Well; Sugar Mama’s; and new vendor Prime and Tender, serving breakfast sandwiches and Italian sausage samples. Hinsdale Farmers Market takes place on Mondays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Burlington Park at 30 E. Chicago Avenue. You have to see it to believe it—boats made of cardboard that float with people onboard. Intrigued? Don’t miss the 2nd annual Cardboard Boat Regatta on July 21 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, hosted by The Hinsdale Community Pool. Here’s how it works: participants construct their own boats from cardboard and duct tape (and nothing else!), and race other teams across the lap pool… with people onboard. First, second, and third place awards will be given, as well as other fun awards, such as the Titanic Award for most spectacular sinking, and awards for best-dressed captain and most innovative construction. To win, your boat must still be afloat with all boat passengers still onboard when it reaches the finish line. Sound like a challenge to us. Hinsdale Community Pool is located at 500 W. Hinsdale Avenue. For more details and to register, visit villageofhinsdale.org.
For years, customers at The Design Bar had been telling founder and design director Leslie Bowman how fun and rare it was to work with an interior designer that also has a luxury retail showroom open to the public. Whether they wanted to tap The Design Bar’s services for a whole home remodel, a one-room re-fresh, or find the perfect accessory, they could stop by find exactly what they needed. “The only wrinkle was we didn’t have enough space to showcase everything,” explains Bowman. “Now, with our newly expanded showroom, we have plenty of space to display customer favorites as well as new and exciting home décor lines that aren’t found elsewhere in Chicago. Plus, with such a large and beautiful new space, we can now offer The Design Bar showroom as a unique rental option to the public for hosting small, private events.” The new 7,000-square-foot space includes a retail showroom, two kitchen vignettes, a custom closet section, 40 different lines of furniture, an art gallery, along with a variety of home décor accents and gifts. The Design Bar is now located in the Burr Ridge Village Center at 880 Village Center Drive, right down the street from the former, smaller storefront where it had been operating since 2010.
