Dr. Anish Chatterjee, has lived in Hinsdale with his family for nearly 18 years, participating in a variety of volunteer activities that support the community. The busy radiologist finds time to help raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, Hinsdale Assembly, and Amita Health Care. Dr. Chatterjee also volunteers as a coach for Hinsdale Little League, Jodie Harrison basketball, Burr Ridge softball, and Downers Grove Outlaws softball. We caught up with this proud father of three recently to ask him about some of his favorite last things.
Amazing experience that made you appreciate the Hinsdale community?
My mother-in-law recently passed away after a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout her illness, our family was so grateful for the support that we got from our friends and neighbors. Whether it was a generous donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, supporting the Team Up Against Alzheimer’s Disease events we organized with the Hinsdale Central Girls Basketball and Softball teams, or even just a heartfelt card or text, I was amazed at the ways our community comes together to help and support families including ours.
Moment with your children that you will not soon forget?
Last summer we went on a family vacation to Germany and Austria, spending most of our time in Bavaria. During the trip we a took a day-long bike tour through Salzburg that visited all the locations featured in The Sound of Music. It was kind of cheesy but it was a gorgeous day in a beautiful, historic city and we had so much fun.
Meaningful community event that you were a part of?
There have been so many in the nearly 18 years we have lived in Hinsdale, but one of the most meaningful must be that we were fortunate enough to be involved the Hinsdale Auxiliary’s Debutante Ball which raised a lot of money for the Amita Health Cancer Institute. The ball itself was a wonderful event that our entire extended family enjoyed, and my daughter, Alyson, and I were able to take part in multiple rewarding volunteer events around Hinsdale last year.
Movie you watched that got you thinking?
Jordan Peele’s Get Out is a funny and entertaining horror-comedy, and Academy Award winner, but also filled with very timely social commentary. I have seen it multiple times and notice something new each time.
Father’s Day gift that you will treasure forever?
When my three kids, Alyson, Julia, and Evan, were really young—like all under 5—my wife had the kids decorate a silk tie with their painted handprints all over it. I love that tie because it brings back so many great memories of when the kids were little, and I make sure to wear it at least once a year!
