“The rug industry is constantly changing,” Hanif says, noting that soft greens and brown hues, from beige to chocolate with traditional Persian or Mahal and Ousack being in style right now. Even with the rise of modern offerings, a Shah Abbas, which is a Persian rug with a central medallion design, is still the most desirable rug in the industry.
Cassim Gallery is a complete destination for rugs. From handmade to machine made, traditional to contemporary, oriental or geometrical, there is sure to be a rug to fit any room, design, and taste. The 6,000-square-foot space boasts an impressive showcase with more than 1,200 rugs in stock and a huge selection of oversize rugs ready to be taken home. Rugs in stock can be shipped worldwide.
Hanif and his partners Maryam Jahanban, Mustafa Imtiaz, and Saleem Cassim started the business in 1993 in the Chicagoland area. Hanif originally formed the company in Virginia before moving to Westmont. After a decade in Westmont, Cassim Gallery moved locations to Hinsdale in 2003.
Cassim Gallery additionally offers repair and restoration services to fix up any wear-and-tear on your beloved rugs. Associates also do rug cleaning and washing by hand. “We do not use machines to clean rugs, we do it the old-fashioned way, the traditional way,” Hanif explains.
Hanif, who has 35 years of experience in the industry, strives to always be ahead of the curve. “We work with the interior design community and stay on top of the modern trends,” he says.
“We are a direct importer—we do not have a middleman in most cases,” he says, emphasizing annual trips to Asia and the Middle East to handpick rugs. “Designers come to us before they go to the Merchandise Mart because, in most cases, we carry exactly what they’re looking for, and if we don’t have it, we’ll find it,” Hanif confides joyfully.
This unique advantage is coupled with superior customer service. Cassim Gallery will even bring potential rug choices to a client’s homes, in order to allow them to determine if the rug’s color and design matches the home’s furniture and décor. This service is offered at no charge to all clients, and there is no pressure to purchase a rug that is brought into the client’s home.
Cassim Gallery is located at 520 W. Ogden Avenue in Hinsdale. For more information, call 630-230-0099, or visit cassimrugs.com.
