With the help of HJWC members and other extremely generous community donors, almost $18,000 in donations was collected, resulting in more than 1,650 gifts. The quality of each donation was the best it has ever been, according to event organizers, noting that the agency was able to provide each child with more gifts than ever before. Sidley Austin LLP donated a laptop and charger to each family who participated in Gift of the Season. Seventy-five HJWC members volunteered for the two-day event.
With such generosity, after the event, HCS Family Services was provided with 10 wardrobe boxes of gifts and a box of pajamas to distribute to families who were not otherwise “adopted.”
Four boxes of gifts were dropped off to Hephzibah Children’s Association for its future use. Gifts were also given to community partners who supported the Juniors along the way—The Community House, Grace Church Preschool, Phillip’s Flowers (benefiting Toys for Tots), and the HJWC Fine Arts Committee.
Community partners helped make the event a success. HCS Family Services staff volunteered for the event. Grace Church donated space for the event. For two years in a row, First Class Moving & Storage in Northbrook donated its services to transport the gifts to the church. Fuller’s Home & Hardware and Union Church of Hinsdale were also donors.
