Feeling grateful gathered around the table on Thanksgiving is a wonderful thing. Feeling grateful running through the majestic trees of Fullersburg Woods is another. This Thanksgiving, we have the opportunity to experience both with the Drumstick Dash 5K Run.
Runners can register as a team or individually, and medals will be awarded for first, second, and third place in each category. To win a medal, predict your race time, then finish as close to your prediction as possible without going over. Anyone can win because this race is not about speed, it’s about accuracy.
A portion of your race fee will go to Chicago Hope Academy, located in Chicago’s Near West Side, a coed nondenominational college and life preparatory school dedicated to nurturing and challenging the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. Its programs include Near West Little League, summer camps, mentorship programs, and scholarship for deserving youth.
Wear your favorite football jersey. Whether you coordinate your team colors or represent a house divided is up to each team. And bring a jersey to donate. Jerseys will be collected as a donation to the Chicago Hope Academy boys’ football team.
Medal or not, time outside in the company of friends and family or simply alone with your thoughts and away from the kitchen are great reasons to run, as are finish line treats from Standard Market.
Fullersburg Woods is located at 3609 Spring Road in Oak Brook. Register for the Drumstick Dash at signmeup.com/drumstickdash.
