Living and working in and around the Clarendon Hills community, The Walker Group founder Dan Frasca has a deep appreciation for the people he encounters on a daily basis. His thorough knowledge of the house building and renovation industry, along with his approachable demeanor, has earned his company many faithful clients. “Our customers have been very loyal to us over the years,” Dan says. “About 75 percent of our business today is from our client referrals; and I think that’s attributed to the relationships that we build with our clients that last long after they move into their homes.”
Forming solid relationships with clients was a top priority for The Walker Group when Dan founded it in 1996. With a degree in construction management from Purdue and an extensive background in commercial construction, Dan had already developed a thorough knowledge of the building industry by the time he decided to build his own home in Clarendon Hills. “I found building my home to be a very creative process,” Dan says. “Friends and neighbors knew I had built our house and asked me if I would be interested in building their homes.”
As Dan began building homes for people in his community, he began to value the face-to-face interactions the jobs required. “Doing residential work, I felt more of a connection with the clients, because it’s much more personal than work on the commercial side,” he says. Because The Walker Group focuses on creating the best building experience possible for each client, Dan and his team involve clients in regular meetings at various phases of the project—such as the excavation phase, mechanical review phase, and framing and finishes phases. Because they are building future homes and renovating existing ones, The Walker Group team knows just how important it is for clients to understand and be excited about each stage of the development.
The most important aspect of The Walker Group’s business is determining how to blend a client’s style and preferences with the lifestyle needs of his or her family. “Whether it’s a custom home, a whole-house renovation, or a custom renovation, we act very much like a consulting company would,” Dan explains. “We’re an extremely focused company, and we focus on what our clients’ needs are.” For instance, Dan might advise a client whose career requires early morning or late night hours to consider designing the master bedroom suite with separation from the master bath, utilizing closets and dressing areas—allowing for more privacy.
Another significant part of the renovation business is the interior design component. As the company’s Interiors Coordinator, Janet Frasca, Dan’s wife, works closely with clients to make a variety of interior decisions—from designing floor plans to selecting paint colors and finishes. With an interior design degree from Purdue, as well as years of experience in the design field, Janet’s assistance helps clients add some of the most important finishing touches to their homes.
Of course, as with any business, effective communication with clients and project management are top priorities for Dan, Janet, and their employees. Understanding that most people have demanding work and social schedules that will take them away from the project, The Walker Group’s website is designed to keep clients connected with their project’s progress. Clients can log in to the website to view weekly construction updates, budget and billing information, and other important details concerning the project.
Their efficient website is just one of the many components that The Walker Group uses to make their clients’ home building or renovating experience a positive one. At the end of the day, Dan and Janet are grateful to have positively contributed to one of the most important aspects of a client’s life. “A home is where memories are made and where families grow,” Dan says. “We get a lot of satisfaction out of building homes for people.”
