Nearly 70 percent of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth, and, by the age of 74, one in four will have lost all of their permanent teeth, according to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). While treatment options for tooth loss have traditionally been arduous and painful, new developments have brought forth more effective options. At Eon Clinics, patients can receive a new set of beautiful teeth in just one day.
This one-day treatment is possible because of the innovative All-on-4 (AO4) protocol utilized by the doctors at Eon Clinics. This method allows for a full set of 12 teeth in one arch, or 24 teeth in two arches, to be supported by four upper and four lower implants (AO4). In most cases, little or no bone grafting is required. This breakthrough procedure has been perfected in Europe over the past 15 years; the FDA-approved procedure has been performed in the United States for the past four-and-a-half years. Tens of thousands of cases have been completed by respected surgeons around the world. The treatment has been validated as a significant advance in dental implantology with a 98 percent success rate.
For many prospective patients, Eon Clinics is the best—and easiest—alternative. “We see people when they are dentally exhausted,” says Brian Brewer, Treatment Coordinator at Eon Clinics. “They’re tired of failing crowns and bridges, recurring tooth decay, root canals, and periodontal disease.”
Russ Viater, who recently had all of his teeth removed and replaced with the AO4 implant procedure in Downers Grove, did extensive research and checked into two clinics in the south suburbs where he lives. “But there aren’t a lot of places that do the full change out,” he says, “Then I came across Eon, and I couldn’t find anything else as comprehensive.”
Cursed with bad teeth and gums from an early age, Russ had two periodontal surgeries almost 20 years ago and another 10 years ago. He knew that he would have to do another soon if he didn’t find an alternative. “I do a lot of presentations and public speaking,” says Russ, “and I wanted to do something more permanent this time.”
A busy vice president in IT, Russ was attracted to the fact that Eon provides all-inclusive services, from start to finish, under one roof. After his complimentary consultation and diagnostic 3D CT scan, Russ agreed to proceed with an upper and lower arch AO4 procedure. At the consultation visit, Russ agreed to have restorative dentist John T. Pappas, DDS, begin the assessment of appearance, speech, and function. Impressions of the present teeth were made and the modifications for improvements were planned for the new bridgework.
At the next visit, David Hanson, DDS, MD (board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon), removed the teeth and placed four upper and four lower implants. Dr. Pappas’ team then placed the prepared bridgework in Russ’ mouth.
Before-and-after photographs tell it all. Russ was very happy with the results. “I think I smiled for a week without stopping,” says Russ of his reaction to his new teeth. “They gave me Vicodin for pain, but I never had to take one.”
The one-day treatment allowed Russ to resume his normal life and return to work after only two days. “Dr. Hanson and Dr. Pappas spent an enormous amount of time figuring out what I wanted my teeth to look like,” explains Russ. In addition to improving a patient’s smile, the doctors pay careful attention to speech and chewing ability. After four months of wearing the temporary bridgework and making adjustments, a more rigid and second set of bridgework is made and permanently placed. Maintenance requires homecare and twice yearly visits to Eon Clinics for removal, inspection, and cleaning of the bridgework.
Dr. Pappas and Dr. Hanson invite patients with dental implant questions to attend one of their many regularly scheduled evening seminars, or to schedule a complimentary CT scan, oral assessment, and consultation.
