2020 marks the 31st Art of Caring, Catholic Charities’ signature annual event. The benefit, to be held on Saturday, April 25 at the historic Deer Path Inn, will feature an evening Mass, dinner, and live entertainment—all with the goal of raising funds for Lake County’s largest human services agency.
This year includes a record seven co-chairs for the event. Together they are a clear example of the strength and drive of the Lake County Women’s Board in their commitment to furthering opportunity and quality of life in their community. We asked each woman to tell us what assuming this role means to them.

I love being on this board because of the many people that Catholic Charities directly impacts through its many services; I’m overwhelmed by people’s generosity, and inspired by the work of these wonderful women.
I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the Lake County Board since 2008. I remember seeking them out because I wanted to strengthen and support those in need right in our community. The more I learned about our board and all the amazing ways they help, I knew I was in the right place.
It was easy for me to commit to co-chairing the Art of Caring because I have known this great group of women for years; it’s a wonderful opportunity to use my time and talent to raise money for the multiple wonderful organizations Catholic Charities supports.
The fact that this is a faith-based agency means that there is an added dimension to the way they provide everything. It does not mean that they deliver those services only to Catholics—in fact, it’s anything but. However, I think it’s important to celebrate and support what our church does best.
I came across Catholic Charities through the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I am employed. I’m impressed with the amount of services provided to communities in need, and grateful for the ability to participate and volunteer.
I volunteered and eventually worked for Catholic Charities in the ’90s, and have seen first-hand the important impact they have in our communities. It is truly a privilege to be part of a group of caring women focused on giving back.
We work together so that our contributions, both big and small, add up to truly make a difference for someone in need.
