Turning A Corner
It’s been exactly 12 years since Little Nick’s closed on Rockland Road in Lake Bluff to make way for a new drive-through Walgreen’s. Owned and operated by local resident Gus Papas for more than 40 years, the popular watering hole was the kind of old-school joint where a customer could order a beer at 4 a.m. (just before closing time) and return an hour later when Little Nick’s opened for breakfast to take down a hearty plate of sausage and biscuits. Those legendary breakfasts, as well as a host of other lunch and dinner options, are available once again at Gus’s Corner Grille—a contemporary casual dining concept Papas has launched just a stone’s throw away from the site of the old Little Nick’s at the corner of Waukegan and Rockland Road,.Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner plus breakfast on the weekends, Gus’s Corner Grille is a welcome addition to the Lake Bluff dining scene. And while Gus himself, now 87, is very much a fixture, the day-to-day management of the restaurant is now firmly in the hands of his capable daughter, Dina Boufis. Traveler’s Trinket
With spring break season in full swing, we love the new Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon collection. Enriching every aspect of the smart watch experience, the My Travel, Agenda, Step Counter, and Pollution functions create a more intuitive watch easily becoming an integral part of your every day. Most impressively, the My Travel experience groups all your travel information together in one place syncing hotel and flight/train information while the Agenda function gives an easy view of meeting time versus free time. The Step Counter function allows travelers to track distance while taking on cities by foot and the Pollution function displays the air quality index in real time. There’s even a GPS function embedded. Practicality never looked so fabulous. Find out more at us.louisvuitton.com.
Teen Scene
Young adults are taking over the literary scene, and now the Lake Forest Library is ready to serve this emerging demographic. Lake Forest native Emily (Emmy) Neal has been hired as the library’s first Teen Librarian, a position created to meet the needs of young adults transitioning out of the Children’s Library. “The Library should be a place where teens can come for help, acceptance, and ongoing learning. Having a teen librarian on staff gives teens their own person to connect with at a time in their lives when relating to others may be challenging. We are excited that we found the right person in Emily Neal to fill this important role,” explains Lake Forest Library Director Catherine Lemmer. “ She will focus on creating services for teens, as well as making those connections with them.” A Lake Forest High School graduate, Neal is no stranger to the library. She worked as a shelver from 2007 to 2012 and a circulation clerk in the Children’s Library from 2014 to 2016. She then began working part-time at the library again last fall as she concurrently completed her Master of Library and Information Science degree and K–12 teaching certification from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. An informal meet-and-greet is scheduled in the library foyer to welcome Neal from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7. For more information about the Lake Forest Library, visit lakeforestlibrary.org.
