Ninety-six years ago, Ellen Stirling’s grandmother discovered Coco Chanel on a trip to Paris and just couldn’t stop shopping. “She returned to Lake Forest, had a discussion with my grandfather, and cleaned out her closets to start The Lake Forest Sports Shop,” explains Stirling, a Lake Forester who continues her grandmother’s tradition with The Lake Forest Shop at 265 E. Market Square. She says the secret to the shop’s success is perseverance. “Never give up and always expect the best,” she adds. “We have been blessed with incredibly wonderful clients and employees.” We caught up with Stirling after her recent “Shop Your Cause” event to find out some of her favorite lasts.
