SETTING SAIL
Lake Forest Sailing (LFS) high school teams took on the cold waters of Lake Michigan on May 13 at Chicago Yacht Club’s annual Rickover Regatta. With a strong tradition of being one of the top scholastic sailing teams in the country, the LFS teams did not disappoint. The dominating performance by the sailors landed them with first place (Jack LaVanway, Ryan McFadden), third place (Zach Biela, Thaxter Shaw), fifth place (Daniel Fogarty, Luke Ackerman), and fourteenth place (Joe Goodzey, Casey Murray). Assistant Coach Ian Schappe said, “Our sailors had good starts and good boat speed but overall they were sailing smarter than the other teams, hitting the right shifts, and playing the right tactics.” The coaches and the team expect great things to come from the growing program, and we will hopefully see more victories at the annual Rickover Regatta.
