Since 1982, Susan Dick and her husband Jonathan have been catering to Lake Foresters’ sweet tooths with their beloved Deerpath Avenue candy emporium, Sweets. Between the holiday rush and Valentine’s Day, Susan rarely has time to take a breath. But to honor the season of love, we convinced her to take a few minutes to share some of her favorite lasts.
LAST BOOK YOU READ
“I am an avid reader. Some people binge watch; I binge read. I will find an author I like and read every book they have written. Right now it is John Grisham books. Just finished The Testament and Sycamore Row. In the middle of The Whistler. All very good and easy reads.
LAST FABULOUS VACATION
“Israel and the Left Bank. I loved the people watching and seeing those with different backgrounds and religions going about their business. Masada was the most fascinating tourist site. King Herod built his summer palace here overlooking the Dead Sea. It was breathtaking!”
LAST CELEBRITY YOU MET IN PERSON
“I rang up a sale for Vince Vaughn and he introduced me to his wife. He seems very grounded, but of course he grew up in the Midwest. I remember seeing him and his amazing mullet in the LFHS talent show in the ‘80s.”
LAST TIME YOU TREATED YOURSELF
“Treating myself means taking my kids and grandkids out to dinner or taking them with my husband and I on a special vacation.”
LAST SONG YOU SANG OUT LOUD
“It was Holiday by Madonna. I sang loud and did all the moves in the front row, while watching my granddaughter perform this song in her holiday program in Chicago. I was THAT crazy grandma!”
