Sondra Douglass is a real estate agent, wife, mom of four kids, volunteer, and involved in many areas of the Lake Forest community. In other words, she has a busy life, and she likes it that way.
“I love life, and I’m very involved. I think that comes through in my work,” she says. “I bring energy and optimism from my daily life into real estate.”
Because she’s lived in the area for 17 years and is raising her children here, Douglass can relate to her clients and give insight to those moving to the community. Whether they have questions about schools, neighborhoods, where to go for home needs, or who to call for maintenance, she has an answer.
“I have a lot to offer because I’ve been in all of these situations myself,” she says.
When first meeting a new client, Douglass likes to get to know them and set expectations on both ends.
“I want us to understand each other and understand the current market,” she says, adding that weekly communication is ideal.
A string of five-star testimonials under her @Properties profile cite her professionalism, knowledge, and optimism— all things Douglass herself finds important for her career. “I have a passion for life, for working hard, and for following your heart,” she says. After all, following her heart got her into real estate in the first place. Douglass studied Behavioral Science and Law at the University of Wisconsin, Madison before moving to Chicago to work as a real estate paralegal. Her husband, Billy, grew up in Lake Forest and it seemed the natural fit to move to Lake Forest after the birth of their first child. More children arrived and while being a stay-at-home mom was fulfilling, obtaining her real estate license was on her bucket list. While being a stay at home mom, she really got to know her new community, volunteered for charity events, became involved with the APT at Cherokee Elementary School, and learned more about the area’s real estate. Ten years into the profession she loves it, and cites her current involvement in the community as a large part of her success.
“I think what happens is you get a lot out of life when you give back to others,” she says. “It helps me too when selling real estate, because if a client has that same passion, I can help them make connections, introduce them to new people, and show them things in the community they maybe don’t know about.”
For this reason, Douglass works often with first time home buyers, relocation clients, renters, and those new to the North Shore.
No matter whom she’s working with, Douglass does everything possible to help her clients find the perfect home, or get their home ready to sell for the highest possible value.
“Every day is different and a challenge and that’s what keeps it fun,” Douglass says. “I love relationship building and meeting new people, and most of all—I love delivering good news.”
