Chris Puszynski’s tagline reads “Your Condo, Your Castle, Your Home,” and to her it’s more than just a catchy phrase. “Every person’s home is their castle, whether it’s a tiny cottage, a condo, or a luxurious house that actually looks like a castle. Every home is important and should feel as special as possible to the owner,” she says.
Finding a dream home isn’t easy, which is why Puszynski spends time trying to understand each client’s needs and goals before they begin searching, so they end up with a perfect fit. The same goes for selling. Puszynski says sometimes her clients feel they don’t have many choices, especially during economic rough patches.
“A lot of people are stuck with an unaffordable mortgage, and they think they don’t have a choice but to sell,” she says. “I try to give them as many options as possible and walk them through the process. Maybe they can refinance, for example, and could actually lose money by selling. I try to sit down with them and talk about what they’re trying to accomplish, because it’s a big, big deal to move, and I want them to be sure.”
If a client does decide to move, Puszynski uses her extensive experience in real estate, home staging, and decorating to help make the process as smooth as possible.
“Sometimes people are so busy with work and their lives that they don’t know where, or don’t have time, to begin the process of preparing their home to sell. I can help them sort things out and get their home ready so the end result will be a large audience of buyers that can appreciate their home at its highest potential, and realize the best possible price.” Puszynski was always interested in architecture and had a knack for decorating.
“Architecture, business, remodeling, and art. These were all hobbies of mine, and I knew if I could combine these through real estate I could never be bored,” she says. She got into real estate in the 1970s and appreciated that it was a field where women couldn’t be discriminated against.
In the mid 1980s, she became involved with Women in Real Estate, an organization where women could network and learn from others in the industry.
This professionalism and passion for the industry and for Lake Forest, where she has lived for over two decades, has brought rave reviews from Puszynski’s clients over the years.
They stick with her too, often calling for advice long after the working relationship has ended. Just last month, a past client called asking advice for his son who was moving into a new home in Maryland, for example.
“I have nothing to do with that transaction, but I so appreciate the fact that he felt he could call me,” she says. “In the end, I want everyone to find the exact property that works out perfectly for their plan and their life.”
Finding her clients their dream “castle” or updating their existing home for maximum selling benefit are what Puszynski loves most about her job.
“I love to remodel but I can’t keep remodeling my own house,” she jokes. “I enjoy looking at the potential of a home. Maybe a house doesn’t quite fulfill every need of the client, but I can see a way to make it perfect while staying in their budget. It’s very satisfying.”
