LYFT Health & Fitness, Home of CrossFit Lake Forest, combines the best practices of years worth of research and preparation, and a driven and focused enthusiasm for fitness by LYFT’s owner, Andi Brown.
Brown brings a love of teaching to fitness. Leaving a school teaching career in Colorado to return to Lake Forest, her hometown, she brought with her a new gym concept that would make CrossFit approachable to area residents, while also expanding upon the types of classes typically offered by gyms. With an expansive offering of classes catered to experts and beginners, the goal of LYFT is to develop an inclusive atmosphere where health, strength, and fitness are not just concepts, but an all-around lifestyle.
“LYFT combines all the best practices I experienced as I researched the CrossFit community and visited many different CrossFit gyms across the country. It wasn’t just the details of the layout, equipment, and aesthetics—but what stood out was the way owners and coaches interacted with members and how they ran classes and events,” says Brown. “As a member and a coach of CrossFit, I learned that fitness changes lives and it inspired me to bring a new gym concept, incorporating CrossFit, to Lake Forest.”
For those who want to get back into shape or don’t know where to start, LYFT offers classes that break the traditional CrossFit mold. Those looking for an entry level program can find one in LYFT Off, which combines fitness instruction with nutrition education. LYFT also offers FIT Bootcamp—cardio and strength training without barbells—in 60 or 30 minute class options; a Varsity Club, geared towards student athletes ages 13 to 18; and Spartan Up! With this class, LYFT becomes the only gym on the North Shore to offer classes with a certified Spartan Race coach, to help train area athletes for obstacle course competitions like Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, and the Spartan Race.
“What I like about LYFT is that the coaches know me, my strengths and areas where I need improvement,” says a member. “They challenge and encourage me, but I never feel pressure to do something I’m not comfortable doing.”
“No matter your fitness level, athletes at LYFT are guaranteed personal attention in small group settings with high level professional instructors, like head coach Heather Refenes, a nationally ranked Olympic weightlifter,” says Brown.
The newest addition at LYFT is the option for childcare at any class. Instead of being out of sight, LYFT’s childcare facility allows children to be exposed to parents working out—with the goal of fostering a fitness community in Lake Forest and surrounding areas.
“I am just so proud of our coaches and our community,” says Brown. “Fitness is a gift that I am excited to share with my friends and neighbors.”
