This year’s Antiques + Modernism Show, put on by the Winnetka’s Women’s Community Board, promises to wow attendees with designs ranging from the 17th to the mid-20th century. Event Chair Amy Swartchild, a board member for six years and one of the co-chairs for last year’s event, is excited to continue the tradition of community support and impeccable design at the event’s big reveal on November 6 at the Preview Party, which is sponsored by Sheridan Road magazine–Forest & Bluff‘s sister publication.
“This show directly helps our facility run, every single year,” Swartchild says. “It’s our number one fundraiser. This show helps keep our community together,” because the proceeds support the services of the Winnetka Community House, which offers youth programming, athletics, art, and more.
“When people come to the show, they’re really going to be wowed by an exquisite mix of antiques and modernism all under one roof,” Winnetka resident Lee Thinnes says. The owner of Lee’s Antiques, she has been part of the show from the start, even when it was still two separate events. She specializes in early- to mid-20th Century European and American furniture, lighting, and fine arts, to name a few categories. This year she’s particularly excited about a rare lucite coffee table designed in the 1980s by Karl Springer.
“He’s a very coveted designer for midcentury collectors, and it’s hard to find pieces in good condition,” she says.
With European, Asian, and American antiques as well as design movements such as Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco on display, attendees can look forward to discovering treasures untold.
“Now that the show is more established, there will be more dealers coming back to the show and I think that’s going to be exciting,” Thinnes says. “And it’s one of the most anticipated social events of the season—it’s a benefit that everyone loves to give to, and it’s a great way to give back to the community and be awed by the gorgeous antiques while benefitting the majestic building it’s held in.”
