If you’re looking for ways to improve your sleep (and your overall health), here are a few bad nighttime habits to break:
- Using old pillows. Not only do pillows lose their shape (and therefore their support) over time, but they are also lovely homes for dust mites. Though people with allergies will suffer the most from dust mites, it’s not healthy for anyone to breathe them in. The best solution to this problem is to zip an allergy cover over your pillows, and replace your pillows every few years.
- Grinding your teeth. If you suffer from headaches, jaw pain, or sensitive teeth, you may be clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth while you sleep. Of course, reducing stress can alleviate teeth grinding, but if you’re still having problems, talk to your dentist about getting a nighttime mouth guard.
- Sleeping with Fido. You may love him dearly, but when it comes to bedtime, your pet needs his own sleeping place. Pets can deposit dust mites and even fleas on your bed, and they often wake you periodically throughout the night—creating less restful sleep.
