On Friday, December 1st, Catholic Charities will host the 28th Anniversary Spirit of Saint Nicholas Ball to benefit the children served by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Held at the Hilton Chicago, more than 1,300 guests will attend this black-tie engagement featuring entertainment by the Ken Arlen Orchestra! New this year, guests can also bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the Celebration of Giving Toy Drive!
The Spirit of St. Nicholas Ball celebrates the life of Saint Nicholas, a fourth-century bishop, and the generosity and care towards children that was illustrated during his lifetime, becoming a model for Santa Clause. Each year on December 6th, his feast is commemorated all over the world.
Unwrapping the spirit for over 70 years, the Celebration of Giving Toy Drive brings joy and hope to families who might not otherwise be able to celebrate the holiday season. For the first time, guests can bring their unwrapped toys to the St. Nicholas Ball to donate to the drive!
Hosted by Most Reverend Blasé J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago and Rev. Monsignor Michael M. Boland, President of Catholic Charities, along with Chair-couple Mr. and Mrs. Michael O’Grady, the reception kicks off at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner and dancing at 8 p.m. and late night sweet treats at 10 p.m.
“Each year, nearly 300,000 children are supported by Catholic Charities programs. We would not be able to provide quality after-school care, counseling services, housing and so much more without the support that is shown at the annual Spirit of St. Nicholas Ball,” said Monsignor Boland.
Entertainment for the night will be provided by the Ken Arlen Orchestra, a world-class 17 piece orchestra combining four singers and eleven professional musicians to keep guests dancing throughout the night.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the children served by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago offered through Catholic Charities including its nine child development centers, after-school programs, counseling services, and teen parenting centers. Last year’s event raised more than $1 million in support of these programs. The Celebration of Giving event will be excepting donations from Nov. 17th to Dec. 13th at various locations, including the St. Nicholas Ball. Last year, Catholic Charities was able to distribute gifts, toys and necessities to more than 25,000 children and families!
