How about a yoga class in a brewery? Sound strange? That’s not what Temperance Beer Company founder Josh Gilbert and Evanston yoga teacher Jenny Arrington Breen thought when they teamed up last May to create a new kind of “beer yoga” class called Temperance Trikonasana.
Temperance Trikonasana not only offers yoga in a fun and unique location, but provides the chance for people to connect, exercise, and impact the community positively. After eight classes, Temperance Trikonasana generated more than $1,500 in donations to small nonprofits located in Evanston and Skokie. “We sought out smaller local charities so that we could make a larger impact in our own backyard,” Gilbert explains. Temperance Trikonasana is held the third Saturday of each month at 1 p.m. All are welcome to join the all-levels yoga class nestled among the tanks and barrels.
After class, the group enjoys a beer together. Each month, a different charity receives 100% of the proceeds from the $15 admission price. A representative from the charity greets the yogis during the tasting. The next Temperance Trikonasana will be Saturday, February 20 at 1 p.m. at Temperance Beer Company, 2000 Dempster Street in Evanston, 847-864-1000, temperancebeer.com.
