For more than three decades, Abruzzo Kitchen & Bath has been recognized in the industry as a design resource that extends far beyond the kitchen.
The company’s showroom in Schaumburg, a 6,000-square-foot medley of various spaces with styles ranging from contemporary, transitional, to traditional—is an invitation into the designing process; a comprehensive view into artistry of the home.
It’s also where the company’s president, Steven Abruzzo, and a skilled team of designers bring their client’s dream homes to life.
“Each one of our clients are personally guided through our showroom by one of the designers,” says Abruzzo. “It is that initial walk-through that is so pivotal to the design process. Many times our clients will have formulated ideas already in mind, but once they step foot into the showroom, they realize we can take them in a number of unique directions, designing a personalized home they will enjoy for many years to come.”
This is achieved in part, through an ethos of collaboration—not only with the client, but also in partnerships with the manufacturers and close ties to architects, interior designers, and builders. The design firm is nationally recognized as a full-service design and build company, employing their very own in-house installation team that works hand-in-hand with the project management team to guide clients through the process.
“Building partnerships is what we pride ourselves on, especially with notable manufacturers within the design industry, such as Wood-Mode Fine Custom Cabinetry and some of the most recognized appliance manufacturers, such as Sub-Zero, Wolf, Miele, and La Cornue—which puts our clients at a significant advantage when designing their ideal home,” explains Abruzzo.
Creating close relationships with these high-end manufacturers over the years allows Abruzzo’s team to be at the forefront when introducing new appliances or cabinetry.
In 2013, after working on new products together, Wood-Mode Fine Custom Cabinetry bestowed the design firm with the very first Partnership of the Year award. Since then, the two companies have collaborated on custom door styles and finishes that are exclusive to Abruzzo’s clients.
Abruzzo Kitchen & Bath’s projects vary throughout the year. From a 15,000 square foot new construction custom home on Lake Michigan in Winnetka, to a complete renovation of a 4,000-square-foot luxury condominium on the 29th floor of the Waldorf Astoria downtown, to a complete kitchen and master suite remodel in Barrington Hills—three separate divisions within the company are adept at designing and/or remodeling from start to finish.
When a Northbrook couple first came to them with a remodeling project 15 years ago, the clients were so pleased with the end result that they retained Abruzzo Kitchen & Bath to design, supply, and install the cabinetry and appliances for their new, beautiful, 10,000-square-foot home. Recently, with all their children grown up, the couple has once again commissioned the design firm to completely renovate and redesign a luxurious condominium in downtown Chicago.
This versatility, says Abruzzo, is one of the reasons they were able to weather the housing downturn when other design firms suffered.
Abruzzo was walking a prospective couple through one of the firm’s remodels when one of the clients asked a question that had been percolating in his mind throughout the tour. When had the project, a complete home renovation in Inverness, been completed?
“I told them that this particular project happens to be nine years old,” says Abruzzo. They looked at him in disbelief.
Exclaimed the client; “It still looks relevant today!”
“That’s the key for us,” says Abruzzo reflecting on the moment. “Then I know we’ve done our job; that we’ve been successful.”
For Abruzzo, each project means taking a journey with the client, overseeing and eventually creating a home, which, to his mind, is the rewarding part of designing a space—whether it be a kitchen, bath, library, or entertainment area for the entire family to enjoy. And through the years, Abruzzo’s team has been able to design multiple homes for the same clients, and in turn even their children, which lends itself to their penchant for effective teamwork and communication. Says Abruzzo, “To me, what’s most rewarding in my career is the relationships that we have created with our clients
and manufacturers, of whom now many are friends.”
