For more than a decade, April Graves of Light Drawn Studios has been photographing children as fairies for inclusion in the annual Beautiful Things with Wings calendar—with proceeds going to support WINGS, a local nonprofit that provides shelter and services for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Light Drawn Studios will be photographing fairies for the 2020 Beautiful Things with Wings calendar June 17-21, July 16-19, and August 13-14 at various locations on the North Shore, including Lake Forest. Costumes are provided. “Imagine your little girl dressed as a fairy, twirling among the flowers in the most beautiful garden you have ever seen … resting in a magical tree, all while hummingbirds float nearby,” says Graves. “Then imagine the wonder and joy on her face when she gets to become a fairy for a day and knowing that the images which celebrate that magical moment in her childhood will also make a difference in the life of another child. These sessions are truly a magical experience and a wonderful way to teach your children to give to those in need.” To schedule your session, call Light Drawn Studios at 224-655-7801 or visit lightdrawnstudios.com. Dozens of students wearing purple 60010 Feeds Kids t-shirts worked together in the cafeteria of Station Middle School on April 26 to pack food for hungry children. The event was the culmination of eight months of hard work by a group of 26 high school and middle school students, who raised more than $10,000 to fund and organize the food-packing event. It grew from a $3,200 start in 2017, when National Junior Honor Society President Morgan Larson organized the event for her class that year. With the support of NJHS teachers Mr. Macguire and Mrs. Siesen, 60010 came back in 2018 for a new group of NJHS students. This year, a high school leadership team helped double the prior year’s funding. In addition to helping fund more than 40,000 meals this year, 60010 Feeds Kids also provides middle school students with a worthy and fun community service activity.
