Leslie Roberts of Barrington knows a thing or two about dressing well. Her personal styling business, Carlisle by Leslie Roberts, has been helping women in Barrington look their best for 30 years. She and her husband John have two children, both in their early 30s. John II lives in San Francisco; Jennifer lives in Denver. “We all love getting together whenever possible,” says Roberts. When she’s not seeking out the ultimate fashion find, she supports breast cancer research, the Brookfield Zoo, and the Barrington Area Conservation Trust. Last great fashion discovery in our area?
“The Carlisle Room” is the showroom in my house. It’s where I find the most beautiful clothes, in luxurious fabrics, that fit all my clothing needs.
Last vacation that left you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated?
Being on a boat in the Mediterranean Sea near Positano, Capri, and the Aeolian Islands in Italy. Swimming in the sea, hiking in the mountains, and eating great Italian food for 10 days is my idea of heaven.
Last milestone moment that you will never forget?
The surprise 50ith birthday party my husband had for me outside of Philadelphia several years ago. We both grew up there. Our families were there and I was surprised!
Last great piece of advice about personal style that you often share with others?
I’m asked all the time what length a skirt should be. It doesn’t matter if it’s a short skirt, a pencil skirt, a mid-calf skirt, or a midi skirt, the answer is always the same. Shorten your skirt at the skinny part of your leg, where the leg curves in or starts to curve out. For a short summer skirt, that means you need to shorten it above the knee at the skinny part.
