Barrington Hills resident Liisa Gent has lived in our community for close to 10 years with husband Justin and their three young children. As a part-time design assistant at Kate Marker Interiors in Barrington, Gent is thrilled to be working with a talented, collaborative team engaged in residential interior design. She is also proud to serve as incoming president of Barrington Junior Women’s Club (BJWC) for 2019 after holding various executive roles in the organization. In this role, she will oversee both fundraising and volunteering initiatives. “This is a philanthropic group of amazing women,” she says. With three kids at three different grade schools, all enrolled in District 220’s Spanish Dual Language Program, Gent says she has been fortunate to meet so many different families in the area. Here are a few of this busy trendsetter’s favorites around country and town:
Mantra? Gather experiences for a rich and colorful life.
Best grooming tip? Add Lidia of Lidia’s Skin Boutique to your contacts.
Guilty pleasure? Spicy margaritas, yacht rock music, and memes.
Favorite foods? Whatever my husband whips up.
Music you love? Fleetwood Mac, Leon Bridges, and the Pandora station.
Best advice ever given to you? The Golden Rule.
Best advice you have ever given? Get that umbrella policy. And have snacks and drinks on hand for impromptu entertaining!
Earliest memory? Christmas morning.
When you wake up you? Peruse Instagram, get overloaded with “perfect life and house” outtakes in my feed, and snooze for 10 more minutes.
Before bed? Tell myself I’m going to bed earlier tomorrow.
What’s on your bookshelf? The last book I read was Becoming by Michelle Obama and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I follow the David Sedaris thought that books are amazing on a bookshelf until you need to move them, so read them and pass them on.
You can’t live without? Snuggling with my kiddos.
Love to escape to? Would love to visit Dubrovnik, Croatia, and the Dalmatian coast.
Advice you would give to your younger self? Give everyone a chance; they may surprise you.
WHEN IN TOWN
Your style is? Suburban but trying for city.
Can’t leave the house without? A train beverage.
Transportation? The 4:18 p.m. train downtown leaves the dinner fuss to the sitter and is a fun way to kick off date night … then we Uber home.
Place to eat? Soho House and Duck Duck Goat.
Shop? Jayson Home, in the Damen/Bucktown corridor.
Best thing about town? Soaking up the vibe of so many unique locales in a neighborhood.
Worst thing about town? The highway that leads there.
The perfect day is? Taking my kids on a new adventure and creating a family memory.
WHEN IN THE COUNTRY
Your style is? Jean-forward.
Can’t leave the house without? Forgetting something.
Transportation? Van life!
Driving music? J.S. Ondara, The Wknd, and Kygo remixes.
Place to eat? Love the soups and toasts at Pine Juicery, and Ambrosia Cafe is such a gem for a treat here and there.
Shop? Vintage treasures at Redemption Antiques and Lucky Junk. I love seeing new products at Kate Marker Interiors and having some unique pieces find their way into my home.
Best thing about country? Kids playing outside all day long.
Worst thing about country? Stink bugs.
The perfect day is? A family bike ride, pool time, and barbecue with friends.
