There is no better way to start a new year than a new, healthier regime. So we turned to Stacey Nowak, one of the top trainers at Midtown Athletic Club in Palatine. For nearly 21 years, Nowak has helped her clients stay in top shape as a personal and group fitness coach. She is also a Pilates instructor and certified across multiple disciplines. Nowak took a break from her busy schedule at Midtown to share some of her lasts.
Last meal that was healthy but felt decadent?
“I have not been eating super healthy with the holidays lately but it would be a recent Sunday at Zias. The salad had pears, walnuts, blue cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing, chicken with lemon sauce with potatoes and peas. You had all the food groups without too much fat. Usually I enjoy eating salads from Panera for a quick healthy meal.”
Last fabulous vacation to a place you’ve never been before?
“I don’t travel much and usually go the same places visiting friends or family. However, I did go to Disney World this last spring break with my son. It was a pure seven-day Disney trip staying at one of their top resorts. Even after seven days we didn’t want to leave!”
Last New Year’s resolution you actually kept?
“The New Year’s resolution I’ve kept the best for two years was getting my house more organized I started with my bedroom and then my son’s room, and now this year is going to be getting the garage organized when the weather gets a little nicer. I’m trying to de-clutter my house and simplify my life.”
Last piece of advice someone gave you that changed your life?
“One day my dad made a comment to me stating, ‘Remember that your son did not ask to be brought into this world,’ and he was right. This was a long time ago, as my son is now 13, but it really made an impact on me. So now, no matter how tired I am, I still take time to spend with my son every day. If I had a bad day, I don’t let it affect him. And I will always make sure my son feels he is number one in my life.”
Last workout mix you made and what’s on it?
“I don’t make my own mixes. I purchase pre-made soundtracks from Power Music. I like anything Top 40 for when I teach. When I personally work out, I listen to ’80s rock music on Pandora as I’m an ’80s girl.”
