Barrington’s own Judy Gibbons is known for a lot more than her business acumen. The Barrington realtor hosts an
annual St. Patrick’s Day party for clients, friends, and family each year that has grown in size and popularity. This lively “by invitation only” event, styled by OMO and held at Tip Top Tap, features Irish whiskey tastings, Irish coffee drinks, and, “The Guinness beer flows all evening,” says Judy. Corn beef and potatoes (of course!) make for all kinds of creative appetizers, and Judy’s own version of a photo booth includes lots of Irish props—all in that special shade of St. Patty’s green. And there is always entertainment. Last year, Bobby Potts played the piano and sang, “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” Judy
says, “It makes me cry every time.” If you are considering putting your property on the market (which guarantees you an invite
to next year’s party), contact Judy at 847-274-4983, [email protected]
Barrington Hills author John Monek just released his second novel, Selfish Instincts, a wilderness adventure story set in Canada with a love story woven into the plot. Here, he shares an excerpt from his book, which he says is rated PG, so it’s suitable for a wide audience.
“What did I get myself into?” Ben stopped himself from thinking so hard and shook his head in order to clear it of the morbid thoughts that were closing in on him. He had chosen an odd purgatory for himself. The more he thought about things the more depressed he would become. Out here in the wilderness area of northern Canada there was little one could do but sit in solitude and think. Ben had to keep his mind on the immediate matters at hand and he had to stop daydreaming. He would need meat in order to survive into the winter. Ben knew that he was dying, but had no intentions of letting himself starve to death.
