A nonprofit with a mission to raise awareness and funds for making a difference in the lives of women and children will host its second benefit on March 8, just in time for International Women’s Day. The Women in the Know organization will present “Luck Be a Lady Tonight” at the Lake Forest Club to benefit Bridge to Success and Guitars and Guns.
This chic yet casual evening of food, fun, and fundraising will bring some 250 attendees to the Lake Forest Club to try their luck at a variety of entertaining games and bag raffles including the Treasure Chest Key Challenge, Wine Cork Pull, Heads or Tails, Golden Ticket Game, Mystery Handbag Game, and Spin-the-Wheel.
“Hosting this event on International Women’s Day is just icing on the cake. A day dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women is the perfect day to highlight how and why we, as women, can—and do—change the world, one cause, one organization, one family, or one child, at a time,” says Amie Marks, wealth investment manager at Raymond James who founded Women in the Know in 2012. “The event beneficiaries are two organizations who we feel are best using resources to serve and support women and children in Chicagoland, and are full of dedicated individuals, strong visions, and proven processes, and we are excited to do our part to help.”
Women in the Know was founded to provide a forum for women to discuss timely topics and world events in an educational atmosphere. Forum participants were so engaged they wanted to make an impact, spearheading the group as a nonprofit dedicated to making positive changes in people’s lives both locally and internationally.
The two organizations that benefit from the “Luck Be a Lady Tonight” aim to make an impact for those suffering hardship. Bridge to Success is the only workforce development bridge organization of its kind serving both at-risk men, women, and young adults citywide in the Chicago metropolitan area. Guitars over Guns offers students from disadvantaged backgrounds a powerful combination of music education, and mentorship with professional musicians to help them find their voice and reach their potential as tomorrow’s leaders.
Bridge to Success Board Member Susan Plumer says she is honored that Women in the Know selected Bridge to Success as its “Luck Be a Lady Tonight” beneficiary. “I have been involved with Women in the Know since its inception and am a big believer in their mission to create a forum for women to discuss timely topics and world events,” says Plumer. “Amie Marks has an amazing vision and strong compassion for what she does. By gathering strong women that want to make a difference, she has created a platform that is unstoppable.”
Women in the Know has grown from its original mission to give women a voice in today’s timely topics to a larger mission of also creating a platform to facilitate women becoming more engaged and active members of their communities. “The women wanted to turn their words and discussions into action to help in-need or at-risk women and children,” says Marks. “Our second annual benefit is one way we are accomplishing that desire, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we are able to do.”
“Luck Be a Lady Tonight” will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Lake Forest Club. For more information about tickets or the organization, call 708-524-9374.
