LAKE BLUFF — This year’s long, wet, cold-then-insufferably hot spring is about to segue into summer. As we hope for better weather, let’s all take a moment to celebrate the longest day of the year and beginning of summer, aka the Summer Solstice, which is on June 21.
A day later, Lake Bluff Open Lands Association offers an opportunity to celebrate together at its Longest Day party, which will be held on Friday, June 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sunrise Beach south shelter (aka “the sailing beach”). Also worth celebrating is the newly restored bluff, which was recently cleared of invasive trees and shrubs courtesy of the Lake Bluff Park District.
The event will include traditional grilled fare, plus a cash bar. It’s LBOLA’s only fundraiser each year, with admission of $25 per adult over age 21. Anyone under 21 gets in at $10 per youngster, and families can enter for a total fee of $50. Let LBOLA know in advance if you will need assistance down the beach road by calling the LBOLA Warmline at 847-234-2860 or sending an email to [email protected] org.
