LAKE BLUFF – Lake Bluff is out to get the community moving in a big way.
The Park District is kicking off the GO Lake Bluff initiative for a healthy lifestyle with a 2-mile walk on Saturday, June 23 through Lake Bluff from Artesian Park, through the woods, past the ravines, overlooking the bluff by Lake Michigan, past historic homes and former cottages surrounded by beautiful gardens then circling back to Rosenthal Field and the Pavilion in Artesian Park for the Family Festival.
Individuals, teams and walkers of all ages are invited to register for the free event online or on-site, the day of the festival, at the Lake Bluff Health & Fitness Center table.
The walk steps off at 11:45 a.m. at Artesian Park. Directly following the walk, one and all are invited to a celebratory Family Festival complete with food, drinks, music, bounce houses, hands-on family activities, contests, vendors and more.
As an extra incentive, the fitness center is offering free Go Lake Bluff T-shirts to the first 150 people to register.
And this is just the beginning.
GO Lake Bluff is planning an exciting line-up of events to get people moving throughout the year and beyond. Walks exploring a variety of Lake Bluff neighborhoods, followed by a wellness activity conducted by LBHFC, will be ongoing.
In the winter, walks will move inside to the track. Other plans include a walking club, a biathlon or triathlon, youth walks, special activities and more.
Residents are encouraged to use all the state-of-the-art fitness facilities available to them in the Lake Bluff community including the 50-meter Olympic size Blair Park Pool, the Lake Bluff beach for swimming and Beach Yoga, the challenging 18-hole Lake Bluff Golf Course, the park district’s Platform Tennis, and regular tennis courts, fitness classes and the new fitness center equipment to get moving.
Food and nutrition will also be part of the program. Leading up to the June 23, children are being encouraged to draw a picture of themselves doing or eating something healthy. The Park District will have paper and crayons available at the walk and at the Friday, June 15 Farmer’s Market. Or they can be printed out here.
