LAKE FOREST — A fire engulfed a single-family home in the southwest section of Lake Forest mid-day on Wednesday, April 25, causing an estimated $45,000 in damages. No one was injured.
The Lake Forest Fire Department was called to the scene at 12:15 p.m. for a report of a possible shed on fire. When the firefighters and paramedics arrived, the shed was fine but flames and smoke were coming from the roof of a single-family home on the property. The fire department got to work, sending crews to the rear of the residence and into the attic with hose lines, according to LFFD Battalion Chief Eric C. Globerger.
The firefighters upgraded the alarm to bring additional resources to the scene, and the fire was extinguished in about 18 minutes.
Lake Forest was assisted by the Knollwood, Deerfield, Countryside, North Chicago, and Lincolnshire fire departments. Wheeling and Northfield sent apparatus to cover other calls in Lake Forest.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
DailyNorthShore asked Chief Globerger if there have been more fires in Lake Forest than usual this spring. “I wouldn’t say more than usual,” he said. “I believe we’re in the ballpark of where we were last year at this time.”
