WINNETKA – The Winnetka Community House (WCH) recently completed an energy efficiency upgrade project utilizing a $25,624.10 incentive rebate from the Village of Winnetka and the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency’s (IMEA). The Electric Efficiency Program is managed and funded by the Village’s wholesale electric provider, IMEA.
The project included replacing fluorescent interior and exterior lighting fixtures with new energy efficient LED fixtures. The improvements are estimated to reduce 313,948.76 kWh of electricity annually, saving the Community House roughly $37,000 a year.
IMEA’s Electric Efficiency Program was created to provide an incentive for customers to complete projects that result in energy savings, reduces the Village’s electrical demand, and decreases decrease utility costs for businesses. Eligible projects must be located in and receive electric service from the Village of Winnetka and must produce electricity savings through efficiency improvements in commercial buildings, equipment, or processes. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, subject to funding availability.

“Winnetka Community House was very grateful to the assistance provided to us by our vendor Brian Earl from Connexion and many staff members from the Village of Winnetka who assisted WCH in making our 107 year old facility new again when it comes to our electricity usage and the numerous lights which burn brightly throughout our large 103,000 square foot facility,” said Robert Thomas, WCH Executive Director. “As a non-profit which relies entirely on donations and program revenue, this is a large savings to help sustain our house.”
Submitted by the Winnetka Community House, a unique non-profit on Chicago’s North Shore that has played a special role in the community for over a century.
