WINNETKA – Car burglars took no respite in the days before Christmas; between December 14 and 22, police received nine reports of vehicle or garage burglaries. And it wasn’t just cars that were pilfered – in possibly the Grinchiest move of the week two clothing-collection boxes were stolen from Sacred Heart Church.
Winnetka’s Commander of Police Brian O’Connell said it appears the December vehicle burglaries are connected, but he didn’t want to publicly speculate about suspects as the incidents are still under investigation.
Here is a summary from the latest Winnetka police report:
1100 Block of Oak Street
Between 7 p.m. on December 14 and 7 a.m. on December 15, a vehicle parked in the alley was burglarized. Items stolen include sunglasses, a gift card and other things to the tune of $375.
200 block of Sheridan Road
Between 1:19 p.m. and 1:28 p.m. on December 18, someone forced entry into the residence. No loss discovered at this time.
1077 Tower Road
Sacred Heart Church
Between 6 a.m. on December 16 and 6 a.m. on December 17, two clothing depository boxes were stolen from the parking lot at Sacred Heart Church. The amount of loss exceeds $500.
700 block of Oak Street
Between 2 p.m. on December 17 and 12:59 p.m. on December 19, someone unlawfully entered a condominium garage and stolea child safety seat and a Trek bicycle. Estimated loss is $2,750.
Burglary – Motor Vehicle
900 block of Ash Street
Tools and U.S. currency amounting to about $100 were stolen from an unlocked vehicle between 9 p.m. on December 19 and 7 a.m. on December 20.
Criminal Trespass to vehicle
Around the same time and in the same neighborhood (900 block of Ash Street), a car owner noticed that someone had rummaged through an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway. No reported loss at the time of the report.
Burglary –motor vehicle
On the 100th block of DeWindt between 11 p.m. on December 19 and 7:50 a.m. on December 20, someone entered a vehicle and removed a book bag, which was later recovered by a neighbor.
Burglary — Motor Vechicle
Also on the 100th block of DeWindt Road, and around the same time and day as the above, a vehicle was burglarized. Stolen items included gift cards, U.S. currency, and a rain coat. The loss is estimated to be $360. The pillaging was discovered between 6 p.m. on December 19 and 5:30 p.m. on December 20.
Theft of Motor Vehicle
A car parked in a driveway on the 1100 block of Sunset Road with the keys inside was stolen beween 8 p.m. on December 19 and 8:30 am. On December 20 and used for police do not know what. The vehicle was later recovered in another town.
