HIGHLAND PARK– Five Park District of Highland Park’s Centennial Ice Arena alumni figure skaters have qualified to compete at the United States Figure Skating National Championships.
The championship event will be held at the SAP Center in San Jose, California January 2 – 8, 2018. Qualifying skaters are ice dance brother and sister team Ethan Peal, 13-years-old, and Eliana Peal, 10-years-old, both from Highland Park along with ice dance team Saige Chaseley, 10-years-old, from Highland Park and her partner Aidan Bell, 12-years-old, from Glencoe. Because this is an Olympic qualifying year, Highland Park’s very own Jason Brown will also compete at the San Jose Championships.
All five skaters began skating at Centennial Ice Arena in the Learn to Skate program and they will represent the Skokie Valley Skating Club at the competition. The Peals, Chaseley, and Bell recently competed at the U.S. Figure Skating Midwestern Sectionals to earn their spots to compete at the Nationals. The Peals won first place at the Midwestern Sectionals and are the 2017 US Midwestern Intermediate Ice Dance Champions.
Jason Brown is the 2017 US National Bronze Medalist and the 2016 Skate America Silver Medalist. Brown is also a two-time World Junior medalist (2013 silver, 2012 bronze), the 2011 Junior Grand Prix Final champion, and the 2010 national junior champion. He won a bronze medal in the team event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
