LAKE FOREST – A woman used her cell phone to fight off an attempted robber who was armed with a knife in the 1000 block of N. Western Avenue in Lake forest at about 5:15 p.m. on Friday, November 17, according to the Lake Forest Police Department.
At about 5:20 p.m. Friday, the LFPD received a report of a woman robbed at knife point by a single male white suspect, who ran off after the victim struck him in the head multiple times with her phone. The caller described the offender as a male white subject, 17-19 years old, 5’8-5’9, thin build, wearing a dark hoodie with puffy winter jacket, dark cargo style pants and brandishing a large kitchen knife. The offender was last seen running north on North Western Avenue.
Responding patrol units set up a perimeter and with the aid of a Gurnee Police Department Canine unit, performed a search of a nearby construction area, the Metra tracks and bike path areas. No suspect or weapon were recovered at this time.
The caller received treatment at Lake Forest Hospital for a minor cut to the hand that occurred during the incident but was not transported by first responders.
Lake Forest Police Officers and Detectives have begun an investigation, canvasing the neighborhood and searching for possible evidence in the area.
