Glenbrook South’s football team has been a good story this fall.
After finishing the 2016 campaign with a 1-8 record, the Titans picked up win No. 5 on Sept. 28 with a 40-0 victory over visiting Niles West.
GBS (5-1, 2-0) accumulated 359 rushing yards in the contest.
The offensive player of the game was running back Savontae Garner, who racked up 198 rushing yards on 14 carries. His big play was a 61-yard touchdown run with 7:47 left in the first quarter. He added a second TD on a one-yard run in the third quarter.
The team’s other leading rushers were Jack Jerfita (10-58) and Andrew Gall (2-44). Jerfita had a pair of TDs on short runs.
Ben Hides found the end zone early in the second quarter on a 27-yard run.
Quarterback Jeffery Chrones completed 4 of 9 passes for 61 yards. He tossed a seven-yard TD pass to Brandon Streb in the first quarter.
Charlie MacKimm was the team’s leading receiver (2-35). Hides had a 19-yard reception.
The defense was led by Andy Sirakides (10 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss), Jalen Covington (8 tackles, ½ sack, 1½ TFLs), Cam Gottfred (7 tackles, 1 TFL), Jason Lorenzini (6 tackles, 1½ TFLs), Conor Nash (6 tackles, 1½ sacks, 1½ TFLs), Zach Adams (5 tackles), Adam Budorick (4 tackles) and Joe Villatte (3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL).
Lake Zurich 27, Lake Forest 0
Lake Forest failed to turn things around.
After starting the season 2-0, the host Scouts came up short once again against powerhouse Lake Zurich 27-0 on Sept. 28.
LF (2-4) finished the game with 152 yards. LZ amassed 336 yards.
Jacob Thomas was the Scouts’ leading rusher with 62 yards on 17 carries.
Quarterback Jack Mislinski completed 6 of 19 passes for 51 yards. Shane Lynch had two catches for 27 yards. Crawford Bolton caught two passes for 18 yards.
John Deering led the Scouts in tackles (8). He also recorded two tackles for loss.
Will Wisniewski ended up with seven tackles and one TFL.
Rylie Mills (6 tackles), Chris Cavalaris (6 tackles) and Will Freeman (4) also contributed.
Bryan Ooms had one sack and one TFL.
