The Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA) is hosting the 10th Annual Twilight 5k Run/Walk/Roll on September 9 at the Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest. A new feature added to this event is the Children’s Fun Run starting at 4:45pm (free to kids 10 & under) sponsored by the Staver Law Group. The race will start at 5:15pm and the post-race party will end at 9 p.m.
Awards and prizes will be presented to the Top 3 finishers. The after party will directly follow the end of the race featuring the music of Suede Stout and Lynette Foss, a BBQ, and microbrew beer. This is one of the largest CARA (Chicago Area Runners Association) certified 5K race in the Chicago-land area serving competitive and recreational runners and athletes with disabilities. The purpose of this event is to provide exposure to the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association and an opportunity for athletes who have physical disabilities or visual impairments to embrace the GLASA motto of “Let No One Sit on the Sidelines.”
The proceeds from this event will help GLASA provide year-round, daily adaptive sports programming and financial assistance for over 63% of GLASA athletes through the Athlete Scholarship Fund. Our goals are to help increase the overall health and wellness of our athletes, assist with funding of athlete scholarships and to expand outreach to surrounding communities, such as Waukegan and North Chicago.
