LAKE FOREST — A Lake Forest woman and her 20-month old son were killed in a collision between an automobile and a truck July 7 in North Chicago, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Cristina Mier, 25, of Lake Forest and her toddler son died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to autopsies performed July 10 by the coroner’s office.
At about 2 p.m. that day, Mier was driving southbound in a Nissan Rogue on Waukegan Road approaching Highway 137 in North Chicago when she hit the right rear corner of a tractor trailer stopped at the intersection, according to the release. The truck was waiting to make a right turn.
Mier was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. Her son was transported to Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital but did not survive. A 27-year-old passenger was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center injured, but in good condition.
“The preliminary results of the autopsies confirm that both the victims died of multiple traumatic injuries from the crash,” Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said in the release. “The toxicology results are pending.”
Mier worked for Moebs Services, according to her Facebook page. Moebs is a Lake Forest-based company providing economic research to the financial services industry, according to its website.
At Moebs, Mier managed the company’s data bases which the firm’s CEO Mike Moebs said is a critical job because of the accuracy demanded by clients which include the federal government. He said she was appreciated around the office.
“She was a fun person to have in the office but she was always very focused,” Moebs said.
Moebs said the company allowed Mier to work flexible hours so she could always arrange a sitter for her son.
A graduate of Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Mier also studied at the College of Lake County, according to her Facebook page.
